Thiago Silva names Roberto Firmino in top 10 best he's ever faced

Thiago Silva believes Roberto Firmino is one of the best he’s ever faced. He named his top 10 toughest opponents this week.

Thiago Silva clearly believes Roberto Firmino is a sensational player. His list of top 10 opponents certainly suggests so.

The Chelsea defender named his list for Chelsea.com. And what a list it is. Silva has played at the elite level for some time, with AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil.

Thus his list of opponents features some of the greats over the last 15 years.

And Roberto Firmino makes that list, coming in at no.7. Here’s what Silva had to say about his compatriot:

“Firmino has incredible technicaly quality. He is very intelligent in his movement and leaves defenders lost.”

Silva actually put him above both Kylian Mbappe and Didier Drogba in his rankings – although, he did only face a teenager Mbappe. Still, it’s high praise for Firmino from a very experienced professional.

Remarkably, the next name on his list is Romario. It caught us off guard that Silva had faced the legendary striker but then, Romario did play forever.

They crossed paths in 2009 while the World Cup-winner was at Vasco da Gama and Silva was with Fluminense.

Here’s the top 10 as we know you’re curious:

  1. Lionel Messi
  2. Cristiano Ronaldo
  3. Neymar
  4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
  5. Adriano
  6. Romario
  7. Roberto Firmino
  8. Didier Drogba
  9. Kylian Mbappe
  10. Angel di Maria

What RTK has to say

It’s a pretty sensational and Brazil-heavy list. Certainly nice to see such praise for Firmino, though – especially at a time when his stock is at a low-point.

But we shouldn’t forget just how good Firmino is at his best. He’s an absolute nightmare to defend, capable of drifting all over the attack and can threaten from anywhere.

Hopefully, he can recapture that form before the end of the campaign. Liverpool could really use it.
