Liverpool have a good deal for Ozan Kabak lined up, according to one journalist. The Reds currently have the player on loan.
Liverpool have Ozan Kabak around on a loan deal, of course, but they can sign him permanently. They’d have to pay Schalke 04 around £18m to do so, however, per the BBC.
One German-based journalist feels that’s a ‘good price’, though. Guido Schaefer, who actually played alongside Jurgen Klopp for Mainz, supports the move.
He spoke to the Liverpool Echo for their Blood Red podcast and talked up Kabak.
“Kabak is a good player,” he said. “I saw him a lot times in the Bundesliga. He is very powerful and he has a good mentality.
“I think £18m is a good price for this player.
“The mentality is world-class from Kabak. He is not in his best performance now but I think he could be a good player for Klopp and Liverpool for the future.”
What RTK has to say
The biggest thing working against Kabak is that Nat Phillips is playing better than him. And if Liverpool want either as their fourth-choice option next season, they’re going to opt for the free one who’s performing at a higher level.
But Phillips aside, we still don’t see £18m of value in Kabak. He’s just about playing well enough to play but hardly setting the world alight.
Even if Liverpool don’t go with Phillips, we imagine they could find a better option. Or, at least a more ready option.
Kabak is still only 20, after all. He has got great potential but we’re unsure if that’s what Liverpool want. They may prefer a ‘ready to go’ option, rather than one for the future.
But perhaps that ‘world-class mentality’ shines through before long. If Kabak can show ability on that level, then Liverpool are far more likely to sign him.
It feels unlikely right now, though.
