John Arne Riise fears that Liverpool won’t be able to sign Erling Haaland. He sees the 20-year-old as a game-changer.
Whoever signs Erling Haaland next is getting an absolute worldie. He has 27 goals across the Bundesliga and Champions League this season already – and he hasn’t turned 21.
He’s already a superstar, with the potential to grow even further. It feels as though Haaland can already do everything – so just what kind of player can he become?
The lucky club gets to find that out as everyone expects him to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer. We do wish he’d come to Liverpool but compatriot John Arne Riise fears the Reds blew their chance.
“Obviously, I would love Liverpool to sign Haaland, but he needs to be in the Champions League,” Riise told Teamtalk. “He needs to be up against the best players and fighting for titles.

“It would be crazy if Haaland went to Liverpool. They would have an incredible front three or four, but I don’t know if it can happen.”
Liverpool, of course, are going through such a rough patch of form that Champions League football seems unlikely next season. They’re currently seven points from fourth with ten games to go.
Six back-to-back home defeats suggests they won’t make up that ground.
What RTK has to say
Unfortunately, ESPN says Riise is bang on with his estimation. Haaland won’t be off to a club outside the Champions League.
Liverpool do have interest in a deal, though. That deal would be at least £130m – twice his 2022 release clause.
Now, we have reservations that Liverpool would make that deal anyway. It’s an awful lot of money for a player and the club don’t usually go the superstar route.
But regardless, it doesn’t matter. The lack of Champions League football will likely end any chances of this one.
It’s a shame but we move on.
