Liverpool have a sensible transfer option in Nikola Milenkovic. Reports link the Reds with the Fiorentina defender.
CalcioMercato claims Liverpool have talked about a transfer for Nikola Milenkovic. The player should be available this summer.
Available at a discount, too. The outlet believes his price should fall down to at least £25m – a very solid investment.
And all things considered, Milenkovic may be the most sensible option Liverpool have.
Playing it safe
Milenkovic is going to tempt any top side looking for a defender. He’s got that discount – always nice – and is a tall, reasonably versatile centre-back.
Then add his experience. Milenkovic will have three-and-a-half years in Serie A by the end of this season and he’s still just 23.
There’s a lot of room for growth there and he’s already a top-level player.
So let’s compare that to three other reported options. Il Mattino, for instance, believe Liverpool want Kalidou Koulibaly.
Now, Koulibaly could be a great signing. But he’s not a sensible one. At 30, the defender is the high-risk, win now option.
Certainly not a long-term investment with room to grow. If he didn’t work out, the money is gone.
It’s easy to see why, too. He’s 21 and experienced in the Bundesliga and Champions League. There’s enormous potential there.
But Konate also has a huge red flag – his injury history.
There’s a very obvious option, too. Ozan Kabak is already at the club and Liverpool can make him a permanent signing this summer.
But he’s not playing well. Kabak is also just 20 and relatively inexperienced at the top level. That £18m purchase price may prove a little too risky unless he turns things around.
So all things considered, Milenkovic is the sensible option here. He’s more experienced than Konate and Kabak, but still far younger than Koulibaly.
Liverpool can find the best of both worlds. A player who is ready to go from the off but still has that potential the Reds like to squeeze out of a player.
Milenkovic is surely the best investment this summer.
