Liverpool only have the Champions League left to compete for. The Reds can no longer realistically win the Premier League and they’re out of the FA Cup and the League Cup. Liverpool will return to the Puskas Arena to take on RB Leipzig next week; fans are divided on the decision.
Liverpool take on RB Leipzig
The first leg of the Reds last 16 tie with RB Leipzig ended 2-0 to Liverpool.
This was Leipzig’s home leg but it was played at the Puskas Arena.
The tie was played in Hungary because Liverpool were not permitted entry into Germany due to coronavirus restrictions.
Mo Salah opened the scoring when he seized on a mistake in the Bundesliga side’s back line.
Sadio Mane seized on another error to double the side’s advantage.
Next Wednesday the two teams face off again for the second leg.
Liverpool return to Puskas Arena
It was confirmed today that Liverpool will return to the Puskas Arena to take on RB Leipzig.
The decision comes after uncertainty surrounding the second leg due to Germany’s quarantine restrictions.
Had the tie been played at Anfield then the German side would’ve had to quarantine for 10 days upon their return.
As a result the decision has been taken to play the second leg at the same venue.
The move has divided fans; I’m very much on the side of this is frankly ludicrous.
The Bundesliga and German government should’ve done more to make sure this tie could go ahead at Anfield; Man City will face a German club at the Etihad for their home leg.
The Premier League have moved games around due to covid protocols, it seems obtuse of their German counterparts to not do the same.
