Liverpool could Raphael Varane for bargain fee if contract report is true

Liverpool are in need of a big overhaul in the summer. We need real quality to come into the side in order to match Man City’s squad depth. The centre back position has been hit by injuries this season and could do with investment. Liverpool could sign Raphael Varane for a bargain fee if reports of him not signing a new contract are true.

Centre back crisis

Crisis barely even covers what the Reds have endured this season.

Jürgen Klopp has lost everyone of his senior centre backs until the next campaign.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have been deployed as makeshift options at the back, weakening the midfield as a result.

Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies were brought in in February to go some way to plugging the gap.

Whether or not the two players are seen as long term options is another matter, we could well move the pair on in the summer.

Raphael Varane contract

There is a similar amount of uncertainty around the centre back role at Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are unsure just who will be their starting partnership next term with doubt surrounding Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane and perpetual links with David Alaba.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Spanish side aren’t confident that Varane will sign a new deal and will look to cash in as a result.

Liverpool could sign Raphael Varane

The contract situation in Madrid opens up a door for the Reds.

Liverpool could sign Raphael Varane for a bargain fee if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

The Spanish giants won’t want to risk losing him on a free in 2022.

This means they’ll have to do accept a much lower fee than what he’s worth.

At 27-years-old he’s the ideal age for the Reds, he’s still got quite a few years left in him and he could form a world beating partnership with Virgil van Dijk.
