Some Liverpool fans reacted after Harvey Elliott made a bad mistake for Blackburn Rovers. The teenager cost his side a goal.

Pass the ball! Harvey Elliott made a bad mistake for Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.

The teenager picked the ball up near the halfway line and went backwards with it. And then he kept going backwards.

And kept going.

Elliott eventually reached the edge of his own box but after failing to find a pass, Reading robbed him of the ball and scored in two passes. That made the game 1-0 and it stayed that way.

This was a bad one. Elliott took a risk-free situation and just created a problem for himself and his team. Now, teammates certainly could have shown better for him but he essentially just needed to try something.

Instead, Elliott did nothing and every yard closer to his goal made the situation worse.

Fans react

Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to the moment on Twitter.

What RTK has to say

A bit of a mix, then. Some fans blamed Elliott, some excused him.

We think it was both, really.

This was a sign that Elliott is a very young player who will make mistakes. At the end of the day, that’s why he’s out on loan – so he can make them elsewhere and learn.

His teammates could have made an easy pass for him, certainly. Because he didn’t have one, he just keep waiting.

At the same time, he’s got to do something else. Boss the situation – don’t take a chance. Elliott should have cut towards the wing and at the very least, given away a throw.

But that’ll come. One mistake doesn’t change the fact the teenager is shining this season.
