It’s never made more sense for Liverpool to move for someone like Memphis Depay. The Dutchman could be a genius signing.
Memphis Depay is out of contract this summer and we think Liverpool should capitalise. It just makes sense.
Teams are naturally starting to circle. ESPN says Paris Saint-Germain hope to keep him in France, for instance.
After all, we’re talking about a player with 14 goals and seven assists in Ligue 1 this season. But this is just the latest for a player who has consistently delivered in France.
Depay has become a superstar, constantly delivering both goals and assists at Lyon. He’s capable of the spectacular, too, and is wonderfully versatile.
The 27-year-old can lead the line or play as a no.10. He’s fairly comfortable on either flank on top of that. In other words, exactly what Liverpool like.
They’ll want to boost their attack this summer after this disappointing season. It’s clear that things need a refresh.
Well, Depay can offer that. He can be a player in his prime, ready to fire straight away. He’d be an immediate upgrade who can contribute from the get-go.
That’s not easy to find. It’s especially difficult to find when also delivering at a fantastic level. Add consistency to all that and you’re talking about a fantastic addition to any squad.
So just to reiterate, Depay is free this summer. At a time when clubs are worrying about finances, here’s someone who feels like a sure-fire win who costs nothing but a contract.

That’s all very relevant to Liverpool, too. They’ll want reinforcements in defence, of course. They’ll also probably have to replace Gini Wijnaldum in midfield.
Getting Depay without a transfer fee would help them buy in other areas.
And let’s be honest, bringing in Depay and turning him into a world-beater would bring a special kind of satisfaction. Liverpool did that with Mohamed Salah, of course, but this would be even better.
It wasn’t Chelsea where Depay flopped, after all.
