Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is intent on remaining at Anfield beyond the summer, according to reports. The 30-year-old, though, is still yet to agree upon a contractual extension on Merseyside.
This comes from the Spanish publication AS. They say that Wijnaldum preferably would continue his career under Jurgen Klopp, although the Reds won’t be in the position to offer what the likes of Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona can offer.

Contractual stalemate
There have been no recent developments on the former Newcastle man’s Anfield deal, which is due to expire this summer. Liverpool have expressed that they would prefer to keep Wijnaldum, although the club aren’t prepared to significantly bolster the Dutchman’s wages, per Sport Witness.
Wijnaldum, who has clocked up 221 appearances under Klopp, currently earns £75,000-a-week, per Spotrac. He hasn’t agreed fresh terms on his pre-existing deal at Anfield that was signed following his switch from St James’ Park in 2016.
Earlier this week, reports from France, per Le Parisien, emerged that Mauricio Pochettino had joined the race to land Wijnaldum this summer, with the 70-time Netherlands star expected to leave Liverpool on a Bosman deal.
Indeed, Ronald Koeman remains intent on bringing his countryman to the Camp Nou, although a move to La Liga remains uncertain with the presidential election at Barcelona still in dispute.
Still, given the relentless impact the ongoing pandemic has had financially across Europe, Wijnaldum could opt to remain at his current club side – if a compromise can be agreed.
Wijnaldum has been an ever present figure, after all, for the reigning English champions this term. The former PSV star has clocked up 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
With just four months remaining on his current Liverpool deal, however, whether or not he remains at Anfield beyond this season remains a precarious topic for discussion.
