Jurgen Klopp delivered the Diogo Jota news we wanted to hear on Friday. Liverpool desperately need the Portuguese forward back.

Jurgen Klopp says Diogo Jota look ‘very good’ in his latest injury update.

“Diogo trained now twice with the team, looks very good – very good,” the boss said, per Liverpoolfc.com. “But [he] was out long term so we have to see what we can do with that.

“But in training he looks really promising,”

Jota has been out since early December, of course. The injury brought an end to his fantastic start at the club – he only has nine starts across the Premier League and Champions League but scored nine goals.

The news that he could be back soon is exactly what we wanted to hear.

Comeback

Liverpool put in a couple of decent performances since Jota’s injury but things have mostly been terrible. Now, that’s not entirely down to that particular injury.

But Jota will shake things up on his return – and that’s the most important thing.

At a time when Liverpool struggle to look threatening, Jota is a squad option that increases the pressure on the front-three. Importantly, though, is lower the reliance on them.

If Roberto Firmino isn’t performing – and he currently isn’t – Jota is a great alternative. Liverpool haven’t had that luxury since his injury.

On top of that, Klopp has more options if he wants to switch his system. Jota offers a fourth top-quality forward to play 4-2-4. He has the versatility to make 4-2-3-1 work well, too.

Jota, of course, will bring added quality purely through his ability. But his availability is game-changing on its own.

We’ll have to wait and see how quickly Klopp puts him back in but the moment he does, things will look brighter at Liverpool.
