Liverpool won’t want to sign Sergio Ramos this summer. That could provide them with an interesting advantage.
Liverpool want Raphael Varane, according to OKDiario. They’re one of three teams involved, with both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United looking at the Frenchman.
Varane is out of contract in 2022, meaning this is the final summer where Real Madrid could get a fee for him.
That will be a fierce fight, then. Interestingly, though, the Reds may gain an advantage thanks to who they don’t want.
Liverpool, after all, won’t want Sergio Ramos. You can pick a reason why – there are plenty.
But both PSG and United reportedly do, according to the Mirror. They’re two of the few clubs who could match his wage demands.
Ramos is out of contract this summer, thus he’s potentially a free signing – save for the massive wages. Certain clubs will like the idea of signing an 11-time FifPRO World XI player.
Even if we don’t particularly like Ramos at Liverpool, he still is a legendary defender. Both PSG and United will naturally want him.
But that will affect the Varane race. For instance, if PSG sign Ramos, we can’t imagine they’d move for the Frenchman, too.
Same goes for United. Liverpool, then, could find their rivals trimmed down if Ramos decides to move.
But more than that, we imagine they can gain an advantage in the race by prioritising Varane. Surely neither PSG or United will – they’ll want Ramos.

Liverpool may have an upper-hand with that. Show Varane that he’s your first-choice and perhaps you sway him a little easier than those who prioritised someone else.
There’s still a long way to go on this one, of course. Liverpool may even decide Varane isn’t what they want.
But when the time comes, we do think they could use that Ramos race to their advantage.
