Alexander Isak finds himself in a unique situation. It’s one Liverpool should absolutely consider taking advantage of.
ESPN reports that Barcelona want Alexander Isak. The situation isn’t clear-cut, however.
The Real Sociedad player has a £60m release clause, which is simple enough on its own but there’s more. Borussia Dortmund, who sold Isak to Sociedad, have a £25m buy-back clause.
Now, they may not use it but Cadena Ser in Spain has an interesting take on that. They say that Dortmund don’t want Isak for themselves but may buy him back purely to sell him on for profit.
The BBC believe Dortmund are a club in financial trouble. That plan makes a lot of sense, then.

It’s a messy situation but one we think Liverpool could take advantage of.
Liverpool, surely, will try to sign a striker this summer. At the very least, it’s time to replace Divock Origi.
Isak would be a wonderful addition, too. He’s still only 21 but is banging in the goals right now. He has nine goals in nine games since the start of 2021 – a magnificent record for a 21-year-old in a top league.
We can only imagine what Jurgen Klopp and co. could do with such a player. There’s an awful lot of potential there and Liverpool have a knack for getting it out of players.
Now, we know the most Isak would cost is £60m. That’s too much, as things stand – he isn’t quite as proven as he could be. Give it another year or two and perhaps that price makes sense.
As for right now, though, what if Liverpool offered above that £25m Dortmund clause? It would tempt Sociedad, certainly, guaranteeing them extra cash.
And Liverpool could get a deal done before Dortmund are in place to make such a move. They have to be very careful, after all, in their current situation.
Isak has the potential to be a superstar, if the right club can get it out of him. We think Liverpool can do that and his unique situation may open the door to a good deal.
