'Will see': Jurgen Klopp confirms Naby Keita could return vs Everton

Jurgen Klopp confirms that Naby Keita could return to face Everton tomorrow. The Guinean hasn’t play since Christmas.

Naby Keita’s last game for Liverpool was the 7-0 win over Crystal Palace. Things have been downhill since – for both the player and the team.

Is there a connection there? Possibly. Keita hasn’t shone this season but he does have a good winning record this season. Having him in the team does appear to boost Liverpool.

Now, we doubt his inclusion would have completely changed Liverpool’s recent fortunes. Keita would undoubtedly have a positive effect, though – more options will always be a good thing.

So it’s certainly good news that Keita could face Everton tomorrow.

“Naby trained yesterday with the team so we will have to see what we make of it,” said Jurgen Klopp, per the Mirror. “He could have been in the squad against Leipzig but it didn’t make sense. So he stayed home and trained but he got ill and couldn’t train until yesterday.

“We don’t hold him back or force him in. It would be nice to have him.”

This won’t be game-changing and we doubt Keita starts tomorrow but this is good news. It’s another player returning to action and, hopefully, a sign that the injury crisis is easing up further.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are likely all gone all season. The others, though, still have parts to play in this campaign.

The real task for Keita will be consistently staying fit for once. That’s been his biggest struggle – he’s not much use if he’s only back for four or five games.

Liverpool certainly haven’t rushed him back this time, though. Maybe that’s a good sign and Keita can gradually get regular minutes under his belt.

That’s the hope going forward if Keita is to play a significant role this season. And it starts tomorrow.
