Liverpool are ‘in the foreground’ for Nikola Milenkovic, according to reports. Fiorentina have put the player up for sale.
This comes from Fiorentina News. They claim that Fiorentina are ‘destined’ to sell two key centre-halves this summer.
Both Nikola Milenkovic and captain German Pezzella will leave the club. They hope to secure around £43m for the pair.
And Liverpool are involved, here. The outlet has the Reds down as one of two teams ‘in the foreground’ for Milenkovic.
The other is Manchester United. Fiorentina, then, appear to have aims of selling to either club.
What RTK has to say
We were wondering when we’d get a link to Milenkovic. It was only a matter of time.
Milenkovic is a player who only turned 23 this season, yet has 26 international caps for Serbia. He’s also in the fifth senior season of his career.
So he’s a young but experienced defender, playing in one of the world’s best leagues. That’s a lot to build on – especially for a team like Liverpool.
The Reds have built a reputation over the last few years for player development, after all. They built their success on an ability to sign players and quickly improve them.
And Milenkovic has an awful lot to work with. He’s buitl a reputation of his own over the last few years as a hugely-promising Serie A centre-half.
The primary issue will be a fee. If Fiorentina want £43m for Milenkovic and Pezzella, the majority would come from the former. Perhaps even the vast majority.
Milenkovic is six years younger, after all, and will have bigger clubs involved. We wouldn’t be shocked to see upwards of £30m when he eventually moves on.
And that is a sizeable fee. Liverpool can definitely get Ozan Kabak for £18m, which is more in line with a young 3rd-choice centre-half.
Perhaps the club would go much higher than that for the right player, of course. And if that’s Milenkovic, then we think he’s a very solid option.
