Real Madrid like David Carmo, according to reports. Liverpool turned down an opportunity to sign the player.
This comes from AS. They say that Real Madrid have their attention turned to David Carmo for a summer transfer.
We don’t yet know if Real will make a move, though. They’re waiting on Sergio Ramos to decide his future – any new defender would be a replacement.
The report claim that Carmo would cost around £21m – a figure Liverpool rejected. The Reds tried to sign the defender in January but wouldn’t match that fee.
Instead, they went for Ozan Kabak.
Now Real sense an opportunity after their own scouts returned with glowing appraisals.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool are in a strange situation with defenders. They’ll definitely pay to sign one this summer but at the same time, their need for one takes a dive once the season ends.
Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip will all return and the situation isn’t as desperate.
Add to that Kabak – a player Liverpool already have. The fact that Liverpool have him on loan with an option to buy, though, means they’re effectively still shopping for his replacement without ever buying him.
That may change, of course. Liverpool could decide that Kabak is the one for them if he performs over the next few months.
Otherwise, they could well be back in for players like Carmo. And then they’d have to compete with the likes of Real.
It’s a similar situation with Ibrahima Konate. The Independent reports that Liverpool like him but Manchester United do, too.

That puts Liverpool in a strange position – they don’t desperately need a defender anymore. They’ll want someone good but the need isn’t there to fully compete in a bidding war.
We’ll just have to wait and see what their fight is come the summer. And that almost entirely depends on Kabak.
