Report: Renato Sanches is on Liverpool shortlist for summer transfer

Liverpool have Renato Sanches on their shortlist for the summer transfer window, according to reports. The midfielder would certainly be an interesting signing.

This comes from CBS Sports. They have Fabrizio Romano offering a run-down of Champions League teams and their summer plans.

Liverpool feature, of course, with one transfer target named – Renato Sanches. This isn’t the first time Romano has made the claim, either.

“Pay attention to Renato Sanches,” he told his ‘Here We Go’ podcast last month. “Next summer he will be on the market and Liverpool are looking at him.

“There is nothing advanced yet but they are looking at him as an opportunity. He’ll be a main target for top clubs and also for Liverpool.”

You can even go back to mid-December when Le10Sport reported Liverpool’s interest in Sanches.

What RTK has to say

It remains an intriguing one and the links certainly aren’t going away. That’s a few months of them, now.

Sanches has rebuilt his reputation somewhat over the last year or so. And it needed rebuilding.

The 23-year-old didn’t make the grade at Bayern Munich after a high-profile move. He then completely flopped on loan at Swansea City. His Premier league ‘highlight’ to date remains him passing to an advertising hoarding.

So it would be a risk from Liverpool. But then, we’ve seen them take similar risks before with fantastic success.

They signed Gini Wijnaldum, Andy Robertson and Xherdan Shaqiri after relegation seasons. Mohamed Salah was undoubtedly a ‘flop’ in the Premier League but Liverpool turned him into a star.

Perhaps, then, they can do the same with Sanches. He’s undoubtedly a player with fantastic natural ability – he just needs the right environment to unleash his potential.

Liverpool appear to believe that environment is Anfield. We’d certainly be excited to find out if they’re right.
