Liverpool have a plan for Fabinho that is their best available move right now. The Reds have the long-term future in mind.
CBS Sports reports that Liverpool plan on offering Fabinho a new contract. In fact, along with Virgil van Dijk, that’s their ‘top priority’ in 2021.
It trumps any new signing, apparently, as they want Fabinho around long-term. And in all honesty, that’s the best move they can make right now.
Liverpool will have to make some big changes over the next few years. There’s no way around that, given the ages of so many stars.
Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, James Milner, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will all be over 30 very soon.

They’re all roughly the same age, in fact. That’s proven to be a wonderful recipe for success, given they all peaked at the same time. But there is a downside – everyone regresses at the same time, too.
Replacing everyone at once is virtually impossible and so Liverpool must do it a year at a time. The next few years will likely see first-team players come in and some leave.
There’s a real necessity for stability while that’s happening, though, and £39m Fabinho is Liverpool’s best shot at it. He only turned 27 this season, after all.
Fabinho can realistically play at the top level for another five years at least. Liverpool, then, can build their next generation with him in mind as a senior player.
Liverpool can tie him down for the rest of his peak years with the next contract. It makes Fabinho – arguably the best holding midfielder in the world – a solid piece of the puzzle that you never have to worry about.
This season, too, has shown what Fabinho can bring as a utility player. Having an elite defensive midfielder who can cover centre-half? There aren’t many of those.
Liverpool, though, have a chance to tie down one of the very best with virtually no risk whatsoever and secure a world-class player for five more years.
