Not so fast: Jurgen Klopp explains situation as Naby Keita returns

Naby Keita finally returns to training but Liverpool still require patience. Jurgen Klopp explained the situation on Monday.

Jurgen Klopp reminds fans that Liverpool must still wait as Naby Keita returns to training.

We haven’t seen the midfielder since before Christmas – the 7-0 win over Crystal Palace, to be exact. His injury has been something of a mystery, in fact.

But Keita is back. He trained on Monday as Liverpool’s injury crisis continues to ease up a little.

The Guinean is one of three players who made their return to training, alongside Ben Davies and Divock Origi. It’s more squad depth, certainly.

We’ll have to wait a little while before seeing Keita, however. Klopp explained on Monday that he’s not injury anymore but that doesn’t mean he’s fit.

“He is no longer injured but he is not fit,” said Klopp, per the Liverpool Echo. “He was in training yesterday but he is not ready yet. We will be away for two days and he will be in training.

“He would have liked to be there against Leipzig.”

No Keita against his old club, then. That one will take time.

What RTK has to say

The more first-team players back, the better. Diogo Jota is next, hopefully.

It’s no surprise that Keita won’t face Leipzig, though. It’s coming up on two months since he’s played – Liverpool must ease him back in.

Maybe that can start at the weekend with an appearance against Everton. Again, it’s unlikely to be a starting role.

But having Keita back will help the team. Is he one of the team’s better players? No. But some of the best performances come with him in the side.

Keita started the 3-1 win over Arsenal, the 3-0 win over Leicester and, of course, the 7-0 against Palace. Even if he doesn’t have game-changing performances, his style appears to boost the Reds.

He did also start the 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa, but we’ll call that an anomaly.

So nothing but positivity here, then. Hopefully, Keita can get fit quickly and contribute over the next few weeks.
