Takumi Minamino appears to be setting standards at Southampton already. The on-loan Liverpool man is impressing teammates.
Takumi Minamino’s loan to Southampton caught us off-guard. Not because the Japan international had a key role at Liverpool but we just didn’t see the Reds losing a first-team player.
The more we see, though, the more it makes sense. Southampton is a club where Minamino can learn the Premier League well – Liverpool weren’t really giving him the opportunity to.
Thus his debut goal was fantastic to see. Minamino showed good control with both feet, smashing one into the net with his left.
More of that and Liverpool can sell him on for a decent fee at the very least. We still hope he makes it at Anfield, of course, and this spell can help that.
Things don’t just look promising, though, but they sound promising. New teammates Nathan Redmond had some very nice things to say about Minamino after his debut.
“He’s settled in fine. The last couple of days in training, he’s showed his quality,” he told the Southern Daily Echo.
“He’s a really, really nice guy in terms of a human being as well.
“He showed his quality on Saturday with a great finish and we are going to need more of that coming forward.”
It appears that Minamino has set new standards for himself at Southampton, then. Redmond hopes to see more quality and more goals.
And really, Liverpool sent him on loan for this reason. They want him to learn how to produce those moments of quality in the Premier League.
He had the perfect start in that regard. Hopefully, these moments become more frequent as he gets used to his new team.
Then Liverpool can make their ultimate decision on Minamino this summer. And if he keeps to these standards, that decision will become win-win.
