Sporting’s Pote scored another two goals this weekend. The 22-year-old is reportedly a Liverpool target.
We’ve written about Pote before as he’s someone who may just interest Liverpool. He’s a goalscoring attacking midfielder – someone who could potentially replace Roberto Firmino.
That’s the type Liverpool want, anyway. A player who can threaten the opposition goal while feeling comfortable in the space between defence and midfield.
Well, Pote only increased those desires this weekend. He scored two more in a 2-0 win away at Maritimo with two wonderful goals.
His first saw him drop deep from a right-wing position before spinning in behind his defender. A pass over the top put him through 1-on-1 and he finished.

That was goals number 13 for the season in his 15th game. And it was 14 in 15 before long with a goal we absolutely love.
Pote picked the ball up on the right, maybe 30 yards from the byline. He then played a 1-2 to drift inside. The 22-year-old came out of that 1-2 with a first-time pass that sent play over to the left.
He didn’t stop moving, though, and drifted towards the penalty spot. A low cross came in and Pote finished first time.
Exactly the kind of goal we like to see at Liverpool. Movement that spreads the ball from one wing to the other, getting numbers into the box, then finishing from a cross.
In fact, his first one was a Liverpool-style goal, too. The defence left space in behind for him to attack and some clever movement exploited it.
That’s the Mohamed Salah / Sadio Mane classic.
It’s fantastic to see that Record again claim that Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Pote. They mention Manchester United, too, unfortunately.
He’d likely cost his £53m release clause – but right now, that feels cheap.
He’s versatile, too. Typically a no.10, Pote has played a little more right-sided this season. So, there’s no question that Liverpool could find a role for him.
Pote could be something very special and might just suit Liverpool perfectly.
