Jurgen Klopp can fix Liverpool but only if he backs £3m decision

Jurgen Klopp can fix Liverpool and rejuvenate that side. It’ll only happen if he fully backs his £3m decision, however.

Jurgen Klopp needs to find a way to fix Liverpool. Things can’t go on as they are, with the Reds struggling as they are.

Fortunately, that really shouldn’t be too hard. More players will return from injury soon, after all, boosting the midfield and attack.

Diogo Jota is the most obvious one – Liverpool miss him. Their xG when playing through him is 0.93 per game. That’s one of the highest numbers in the Premier League and the best in the Reds’ squad.

In short, they create far better chances when he’s in the team.

But that’s only one issue. Liverpool do need to score more goals but their midfield and defence arguably need more work.

The fix there is obvious but it relies on Klopp backing Liverpool’s major decision this winter.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

Safe option

We are yet to see either Ben Davies or Ozan Kabak play for Liverpool. They were the two ‘big’ January signings, though.

The Reds went into the window late and reportedly paid around £3m to get them in, assuming bonuses are met. It’s up to £1.6m for Davies and £1.5m for Kabak’s loan.

It wasn’t too much but Liverpool got a pair of defenders with far more centre-back experience than anyone else available. They just need to use them.

Backing them to succeed means playing them before they’re ready. Otherwise, Liverpool will wait for them to full adapt and the season will pass them by.

In that case, signing them was meangingless.

But Liverpool need them. Not only to provide safer options in defence but to allow Jordan Henderson to play in midfield.

Liverpool are a lot better with him there. They haven’t lost with him there, in fact. Their only Premier League loss with Henderson in midfield over the last two years was the 4-0 away at Manchester City when Liverpool had just won the title.

Henderson only realistically returns to midfield if Klopp throws in a new signing, however. He can’t afford to wait it out, though – the boss has to back the decision to sign them for this season and throw them in ASAP.
