Liverpool have a new teenage talent in Kaide Gordon. But who is the 16-year-old?
Derby County officially announced that Kaide Gordon was a Liverpool player on Friday. The Rams agreed an undisclosed compensation package and that was that.
Liverpool now have Gordon, a 16-year-old with a bright future. But who is he? Here’s what we know.
Gordon has come through the Derby County system and impressed to say the least. So much so, in fact, that the teenager got his senior debut at the end of 2020.
Yes, it was just one minute in a 4-0 win over Birmingham but it was a sign that the Rams have him down as a rapid developer.

Gordon is left-footed and a natural right-winger. But he’s played several positions for Derby’s academy sides.
Just this year, in fact, Gordon has played left wing, right wing and, against Liverpool’s U18s, attacking midfield. His senior debut came as a centre-forward, too.
This then, is a versatile player. Liverpool can do a lot with that, trying him in several roles or effectively picking their own preferred position for him.
We do wonder if they’ll move him away from a right-wing spot, given how close in age he is to Harvey Elliott. Instead, Liverpool may want to build a future with both in the same XI.
What they say
There are some really good quotes about Gordon from those who know him best.
Take Wayne Rooney, for instance. The Scouser gave Gordon his senior debut after calling him up for first-team training. It’s safe to say the teenager impressed.
“I brought Kaide up with the first team initially to train with us for a week to see how he reacted to it, and he was one of the best trainers,” he said, per Sky Sports.
“I kept him with us for a couple of weeks and he’s been training at the same level – if not to a better level – than a lot of the other [senior] players.”
We like this, too, from the Liverpool Echo’s interview with ‘Derby County academy expert’ Jack Hasler.
“In terms of the skills he has now, and at the age of 16, he is a top-quality player,” said Hasler. “He has a good eye for goal and he creates goals for his teammates.
“If he was to bulk up a bit, he could, in terms of a Liverpool player, be similar to Mohamed Salah in that he has that left foot that is really special.”
Possibly our favourite is from the Athletic. They quote a source from inside Derby who claims the club see Gordon as ‘the best 16-year-old in the country’.
Given Liverpool have Elliott, undoubtedly the best 17-year-old in the country, that’s a very exciting prospect. The Reds may have secured themselves a very bright future here.
