Liverpool have been unlucky with injuries this season and as a result they’ve had to play a number of players out of position. Some have really stepped up to the task. The skipper dropped into defence again at the weekend. James Milner warned Jordan Henderson he could end up staying at centre back.
Liverpool injury crisis and Hendo
The Reds started the season with just three centre backs in the senior side.
One by one each of these defenders have picked up season ending injuries.
Virgil van Dijk was the first to go when he ruptured his ACL in the Merseyside Derby.
Joe Gomez wasn’t far behind, picking up a similar injury in England training.

Joel Matip was in and out of the side before an ankle ligament problem ruled him out for the remainder.
Fabinho has lined up at the back in their absence but he’s sidelined himself at the moment, Jordan Henderson has had to fill in as a result.
James Milner advice for Jordan Henderson
At the weekend the Reds took on West Ham.
It was the second game in a row that the captain started in defence, this time Nat Phillips was alongside him from the off.
Yet again the skipper put in a superlative performance, not at all looking out of place despite being out of position.
Jürgen Klopp told reporters after the game that James Milner offered Jordan Henderson some advice, shouting at his captain:
“You better be careful, because if you keep playing like this, you’ll be centre-back for the rest of your career.”
What RTK has to say
Would that be a disaster?
Liverpool have been left short handed at the back and Hendo has been exceptional in his makeshift role.
Hopefully he returns to the midfield this season but in the long term he could well do a job in the back four.
He has all of the instincts, leadership and communication skills to make the transition as he gets older.
