Jurgen Klopp gives his first thoughts on new Liverpool signing Ben Davies. It’s safe to say he likes what he sees.
Liverpool officially confirmed the signing of Ben Davies on Monday. The 25-year-old arrives from Preston North End for an initial £500k.
Sky Sports say bonuses can rise that deal up £1.1m, with Preston having a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
It’s a signing no one really saw coming – certainly not a year ago. But defensive injuries thrust Liverpool into the market late on.
Davies now arrives and it sounds as though Jurgen Klopp is high on his new man.

“When we saw him we got really excited about it and thought, ‘Wow’,” he said, per Liverpoolfc.com. “He’s a boy who played his whole life for Preston, is around the corner pretty much.
“We see the potential really. We see the quality and we see the potential as well because he’s 25 and there’s a lot to come for him.
“I love a lot about his play. He’s a really good footballer, looks like a proper leader in this Preston team, good in challenges, looks football smart, can play different positions because he played in a back three and a back four and all these things.
“That makes him really interesting so I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
What RTK has to say
If Klopp thinks he’s a big talent, that’s more than good enough for us. The more we hear about Davies, the better a signing he sounds.
The interesting going forward will be how Klopp uses Davies. Will he be a regular starter? Is he going to cover more than one position?
And just how high does he see that potential?
The biggest question, of course, is how Davies will fit in once everyone else is back. Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez aren’t gone forever, after all.
But Davies has a good few months to make a fine position and earn himself a place at the champions. We’re really looking forward to seeing if he can pull it off.
