Jurgen Klopp went to two former colleagues for information on Ozan Kabak, according to reports. Liverpool should sign the player imminently.
This comes from the Independent. They claim that Jurgen Klopp turned to some trusted sources before moving for Ozan Kabak.
Firstly, he went to David Wagner – a close friend. Klopp and Wagner played together at Mainz before working at Borussia Dortmund.
Wagner went on to manage Schalke, working closely with Kabak. He’s said to have ‘strongly recommended’ the player to Klopp.
Second was Christian Heidel, a former Sporting Director at Schalke and someone who worked with Klopp at Mainz.

Heidel, much like Wagner, gave a ‘glowing appraisal’ of Kabak.
What RTK has to say
Klopp goes into this one with a lot of faith behind him, then. It doesn’t get much better than ‘glowing appraisals’ from people you trust.
Kabak has a big reputation as a very promising defender, of course. But hearing it from people you know closely is just another level entirely.
Klopp will know not only how good Kabak is right now, but exactly what he’s like to work with. That should – in theory – make it significantly easier to get that potential out of him.
Liverpool already have a stellar reputation for doing just that but knowing what you’re getting going in is just ideal. Klopp will feel pretty confident about this one – and now we do, too.
No one is going into this one blind, which is always a risk with late-in-the-window deals. There’s an air of desperation around the Kabak move, after all, as Liverpool didn’t want to to do it a short while ago.
So as far as last-ditch moves go, this is one to feel good about. We’re talking about an option-to-buy anyway, so there’s very little risk here.
