Liverpool officially sign Ben Davies from Preston North End, according to reports. The Reds have their centre-back.
Liverpool sign Ben Davies from Preston North End, per their official club site.
The Liverpool Echo believes the initial fee on this one is just £500k, with add-ons taking it closer to £2m.
Preston were open to sale because they could have lost him for nothing at the end of the season, given his expiring contract.
What RTK has to say
Well, not one we’d have predicted even a few days ago – let alone a year ago.

But Davies arrives with a lot of promise. He’s not a young player at 25, with several years of experience in the Championship.
That immediately makes him a more reliable option than Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips – an upgrade there, then.
Liverpool also get him on a complete steal. Davies’ contract expired at the end of the season and the Reds swoop in to sign him for a pittance.
This one just feels incredibly low-risk, then.
He arrives as a left-footed centre-back, too, and becomes the only one at Liverpool. That carves out an interesting niche on its own.
All in all, we’re quite excited about this one. He’s still a 25-year-old centre-back from the Championship, which isn’t the most exciting signing of all time, but he ticks some boxes.
Overall, Liverpool just desperately needed someone to come in as cover. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are out long-term. Fabinho and Joel Matip are both out for now, too.
Jurgen Klopp doesn’t have any centre-backs who had consistently played at a good level before this season. Davies fixes that right away, even if it’s not the absolute top level.
For that alone, this one gets a big thumbs up from us.
