Liverpool fans have spent the season wondering whether or not one of the side’s most valuable players will still be here next year. Gini Wijnaldum is in the final year of his contract and there is currently a standoff over a new deal. Fabrizio Romano has said a decision can be expected in February, some Liverpool fans have reacted to the news.
Gini Wijnaldum contract
Last summer Gini Wijnaldum entered the final year of his contract at Liverpool.
The Dutchman joined from Newcastle in a £25m deal and has steadily become an undroppable member of the side.
His tireless running and all action style have embodied Jürgen Klopp’s philosophy.
Ronald Koeman allegedly made signing the midfielder a ‘non-negotiable priority‘ last summer.
Since then there’s been no update on the dynamo’s future, just persistent indecision.
Fabrizio Romano update
As of yet we don’t know whether Gini will sign a new deal.
There has been talk of an offer tabled in December but at the moment he hasn’t accepted it.
Speaking to Anfield Watch, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Wijnaldum will make a decision on his contract in February:
“I’m told that in the last few weeks the situation has gotten really, really complicated with Gini Wijnaldum.
“He’s not convinced about the economical part but also about what the project is going to be in the future and what his personal life and family want.
“It is really difficult at the moment but I think in February we will have a decision.”
