Summer saga

Last summer Gini Wijnaldum entered the final year of his Liverpool contract.

The Dutchman became the subject of intense interest from Barcelona.

Freshly appointed Camp Nou boss Ronald Koeman allegedly made the midfielder a ‘non-negotiable priority‘.

There were plenty of suggestions that the Reds would sell up to the Catalan club before the start of the season.

However, things didn’t work out that way and the dynamo stuck around.

Romano on Gini Wijnaldum contract

This is a saga that appears to be without end.

Gini Wijnaldum still hasn’t signed a new contract with Liverpool.

Nor has he agreed a deal elsewhere.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Wijnaldum saga will be resolved in February. The journalist told Anfield Watch:

“I’m told that in the last few weeks the situation has gotten really, really complicated with Gini Wijnaldum.

“He’s not convinced about the economical part but also about what the project is going to be in the future and what his personal life and family want.

“It is really difficult at the moment but I think in February we will have a decision.”

What RTK has to say

Please. Please, Gini Wijnaldum I am begging you to sign the contract.

The Dutchman is an undroppable part of the side.

He is everywhere on the pitch and he never needs a rest – when does he ever get injured?

Considering the problems we’ve had with fitness issues this season, having a player like him is utterly invaluable.

Hopefully we manage to keep him a while longer.
