Liverpool will miss out on Kayky as he nears a move to Manchester City, according to reports. The Brazilian is a highly-rated prospect.
Goal reports that Manchester City will sign Kayky, a player linked with Liverpool. They’ll even throw in Metinho as part of a £9m deal – another Fluminense youngster.
Kayky, a 17-year-old likened to Neymar had been linked with Liverpool recently. Netflu initially reported that three days ago, saying the Reds would battle Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal.
UOL then backed that up, claiming Kayky had turned down a new deal with Fluminense.
But while we had Shakhtar down as fierce rivals for this one, it turns out we should have worried about City. They’ll get Kayky and apparently move him on to another ‘City Football Group’ team.
What RTK has to say
Well now we really wish we’d sign him – Kayky is clearly the next big thing in Brazilian football.
Seriously, though, we just don’t actually know enough about the kid to have a serious opinion here. If City are willing to pay the money to get him, we’ll assume there really is something about him.
It also lends credence to the idea that Liverpool had interest. Major clubs in England clearly had their eyes on Kayky and City were unlikely to be the only ones.
But it’s still a move for a youngster. Sometimes, those players do become something very special. That’s certainly possible – the world’s best players do have to come from somewhere.
Really, though, it’s a shot in the dark most of the time. Perhaps Kayky will become a world-beater and live up to the Neymar label.
He almost certainly won’t, though, given very few players reach Neymar’s level. Ever.
So we’d rather Kayky was at Liverpool, of course, as the interest suggests he’s a real talent. But it’s hard to get too upset about a kid we know next to nothing about.
