Liverpool could be waiting some time before David Alaba makes a final decision. The Reds reportedly want the Austrian.

This comes from AS. They claim that David Alaba hasn’t made a final decision on where he’ll play after this season.

The Austrian is out of contract, after all. He’ll leave Bayern Munich but has at least three serious offers on the table.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City want him. The latter are even prepared to go to £12m-a-year in order to get him.

The favourites, though, are Real Madrid. Alaba wants to play in Spain rather than England, meaning he’s willing to accept the lower £10m-a-year offer from Los Blancos.

But here’s the catch – Real don’t see any deal happening until April at the earliest. It could take as long as May, in fact, just one month before his contract expires.

Everyone faces a long wait on this one, then.

What RTK has to say

There’s certainly plenty of time to sway Alaba’s mind, that’s for sure. Real’s willingness to wait opens the door for everyone else, when it sounds as though it would usually be shut.

By all accounts, Alaba wants to join Real – he’d be there’s if they put a contract in front of him to sign.

Instead, they’re going to wait until later in the year, presumably for financial reasons.

The AS report does mention that Real are currently negotiating wage reductions for their first-team squad. It makes sense, then, that they don’t want to add an expensive signing right now.

Do we think Liverpool have much of a chance here? Not really. Alaba seems pretty set on Real. But there is a chance as long as Real are willing to wait.

Who knows? Perhaps they’ll sack Zinedine Zidane and head in a completely different direction, ruling out Alaba. Anything could happen.

For now, we’ll wait and see. It seems like a slim opportunity for Liverpool but it’s all they’ve got with Alaba.
