Real Madrid are hoping for a long-shot with Kylian Mbappe, according to reports. That stance should encourage Liverpool.
This comes from Mundo Deportivo. They claim that Real Madrid now hope Kylian Mbappe will run down his Paris Saint-Germain contract and leave for free.
Los Blancos are not financially prepared to front a move for the Frenchman. That’s something many outlets have claimed in recent times. Both AS and OKDiario, for instance, believe Real could sell several players to try and fund things.
But if they truly are now hoping for a freebie, it suggests all isn’t going to plan. Because hoping for that is a long-shot.
Mbappe, by all accounts, loves Paris Saint-Germain and it’s unlikely that he’d do that to them. The other side is PSG themselves – they won’t risk losing him for free.
If he’s not signing a new contract, they’ll move him on in the summer. So what Real are really hoping for is that Mbappe would turn his back on PSG and turn down everyone else just for them.
Again, that’s a long-shot.
Liverpool are one of those teams who would likely bid. ESPN says the Reds want Mbappe and that he’d be ‘keen’ to join.
Now, finances at Anfield aren’t great either – they’re pretty bad everywhere. But they’d surely muster together more than the ‘nothing’ Real hope to pay.
So Liverpool can smile at this one. It sounds as though Real won’t have the financial power to blow everyone else out of the water.

That is their typical strategy, after all. Instead, this might be an even race.
In that case, Liverpool’s recent success weighs enormously in their favour. They’ve been the place to be over the last two years, not Real.
So to us, this is all very encouraging. Signing Mbappe won’t be easy but it will likely be easier than it could have been.
