Reports suggest Inter may rekindle Divock Origi interest after recent blow

Inter may just come in for Divock Origi late in the window. That’s if recent reports accurately depict their situation.

Papu Gomez has joined Sevilla. Now, that’s not something that greatly affects Liverpool on its own but it could kick off a chain here.

Corriere Dello Sport claimed earlier in the month that Internazionale wanted Gomez. He was their priority – even if they didn’t want to agree to Atalanta’s terms.

Obviously, they didn’t change their minds and Gomez has moved to Spain. So what now for the Nerazzurri?

Well, the same report states that Divock Origi was the alternative for Inter. They were looking at a loan as a possibility.

Inter, overall, want a striker who offers them physicality and a threat in behind. They hoped for Gomez but Origi was a potential cheap option.

So if that is still Inter’s mentality, Liverpool should brace for some kind of late offer.

What RTK has to say

It’s difficult to see any benefit in a loan deal, from Liverpool’s perspective. Inter’s benefit is clear – they get a player for essentially nothing.

Origi would likely benefit, too, in fact. We don’t expect him to get much of a look-in once Diogo Jota returns. Liverpool have little need for him, either, as the Belgian rarely affects games these days.

But still, we’ve seen how injuries can tear through teams and Liverpool have little beyond Origi. Thus it doesn’t really make much sense.

If Inter offered enough money to make a signing possible, then you could talk. But anything short of that feels like charity on Liverpool’s part.

So we can’t see this one happening. Inter may well come back in for Origi and make some sort of loan offer but it’s highly unlikely to be one Liverpool entertain.
