Liverpool have been in poor form in recent weeks. We can point to the thinly stretched squad as a reason why. Fringe players are having to take on more responsibility than expected. One such player was tipped for a summer exit. Xherdan Shaqiri has reportedly turned down Hertha Berlin this month as he doesn’t fancy a relegation battle.

Shaqiri at Liverpool

Liverpool signed Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke for £13m in 2018.

The Swiss international arrived on a snip and has shown his brilliance in flashes.

Earlier on in the season he played a couple of smart passes in back to back games to provide us with vital goals.

Last term he scored a huge brace against Manchester United.

The diminutive playmaker has returned to the lineup of late and has been impressive in bursts but rumours of an exit persist.

Xherdan Shaqiri turns down Hertha Berlin

According to FussballTransfers in Germany, Xherdan Shaqiri has turned down Hertha Berlin.

The Swiss international was linked with a move to Turkey over the summer but the move never materialised.

It appears that he is still being linked with an exit but he’s rejected this avenue.

The midfielder has allegedly decided that he isn’t in the mood for a relegation battle.

Hertha Berlin are just two points above the drop zone.

What RTK has to say

Liverpool selling Xherdan Shaqiri to Hertha Berlin was never likely.

There are a number of reasons why the move doesn’t make sense.

Firstly, given our injury crisis it would be daft to move him on.

Secondly, a loan move isn’t in the club’s interest and Hertha Berlin are unlikely to be able to afford the Reds’ asking price.

We should keep Shaq until the end of the season and then reassess.
