Derby County reportedly believe Kaide Gordan is the best in his age group. The teenager will supposedly join Liverpool, however.
Sky Sports report that Liverpool are ‘closing in’ on Derby County teenager Kaide Gordan. The deal could happen any time now, in fact.
And Liverpool could be getting a real gem here. Per the Athletic, Derby consider Gordan to be the ‘best 16-year-old in the country’.
Yet, they’re losing him. And not exactly getting much for him, either – that Sky Sports report says the absolute maximum is £3m.
It’s a small fee for a player who Derby clearly had big plans for. They’ve handed him his senior debut – albeit for just one minute – and he’s trained with their first team.

Liverpool, though, are pushing hard for top youngsters. They brought in the previous ‘best 16-year-old’ in Harvey Elliott – who is now quite firmly the best 17-year-old in the country.
The hope will be that Gordon can follow in Elliott’s footsteps, then.
But they’re far from the only youngsters who have arrived at the club in recent times. Sepp van den Berg arrived when Elliott did, while Marcelo Pitaluga joined in 2020.
They just beat the Brexit deadline to sign Stefan Bajcetic from Celta Vigo, too – another 16-year-old with great potential.
We’ve recently talked about Liverpool’s ‘young XI’. Essentially, the group of players with genuine excitement around them and who could make the breakthrough.
And Liverpool continue to add to it. The suggestions are that Gordan goes straight into the academy setup, rather than first-team training as he has with Derby.
But Liverpool have been quick to promote youngsters in recent seasons. Plenty of kids train with the first-team, even if they’re not making the squads.
And if Derby are right about Gordan, we can expect him to be testing himself with the seniors in no time at all.
