Liverpool have been in real trouble in recent weeks. The Reds haven’t won in their past five Premier League games. Jürgen Klopp’s men have failed to score in the last four of these games. Fans are demanding action in the transfer market. Liverpool can cite Timo Werner as a reason why not rushing into a January signing makes sense.

Liverpool need to buy

Kopites have been crying out for reinforcements since October.

When Virgil van Dijk was sidelined for the season fans started pleading for a defensive buy in January.

Since then we’ve lost another defender for the rest of the campaign and our last remaining centre back has been in and out of the side.

There has also been a lack of quality in depth up top with Divock Origi illustrating against Burnley why we need to strengthen our attacking options.

Liverpool not buying

All the indications coming out of the club point to no transfer business being done this month.

Jürgen Klopp has insisted it is not up to him, hinting that he’s asked for a defender and been told no.

The decision not to buy in January is a controversial one with many believing that FSG are taking too big a risk by not resolving very obvious issues in the squad as we head into the second half of the season.

Liverpool and Timo Werner example

Last summer Liverpool were linked with Timo Werner for months.

The Reds ended up deciding against a move for the German forward.

Chelsea swooped in and bought the striker for £45m.

Kopites were gutted, furious even at being apparently gazumped by the West London side.

However, the decision appears to have been the right one from Liverpool.

The German has gone on to be a flop at Chelsea, most recently failing to score even against Championship opposition – missing from the spot against Luton Town.

The striker has just four Premier League goals this term. Liverpool can point to Timo Werner as a reason not to rush into transfers, sometimes they can prove costly errors. We avoided one such costly error last summer.
