Liverpool didn’t have as big of a summer transfer window as first expected when we were crowned champions. The Reds did still bring in a couple of star players though. One youngster was perpetually linked with an Anfield switch before heading for France. Jeremy Doku has opened the door to a Liverpool move in future.
Who is Jeremy Doku?
18-year-old Belgian Jeremy Doku plays as a wide forward for Rennes in Ligue 1.
The teenager joined the French side from Belgian outfit Anderlecht over the summer.
The Ligue 1 club had to fork out around £27m for the wonderkid.
Prior to his move to Rennes, Doku had been persistently linked with a Liverpool move.
There’s no wondering why either, he’s gaining quite a reputation for himself; Kevin de Bruyne described his young countryman as a ‘diamond in the rough’.
Jeremy Doku on Liverpool
Speaking to Het Nieuwsblad in his home country, Jeremy Doku discussed Liverpool interest in him over the summer.
The teenager explained why he decided to move to France instead of the Premier League:
“I did a lot of research first, wrote down all the positive points and only then did I make a decision.
“I knew that I first wanted to make an intermediate step. Going to a top club now would be too soon. I still have a lot to learn and Rennes is the ideal place for that.”
What RTK has to say
Jeremy Doku hasn’t completely turned away from Liverpool.
The teenager’s choice of words has left the door open for a move in future.
In fact, he has showed a great maturity and confidence in his own ability.
The youngster has decided to develop his game somewhere he can get regular first team football, rather than head to the Premier League and be lucky to get sporadic appearances from the bench.
He is confident that should he continue to perform then a move to a top club will materialise in future.
Let’s just hope that top club is Liverpool.
