Transfers around the Premier League shows Liverpool are not alone

One look around the Premier League shows that Liverpool are not alone on transfers this winter. The Reds are in a tough spot, however.

It doesn’t look as though Liverpool are going to sign anyone this month. That’s certainly the impression Jurgen Klopp gives.

“What we have to do is improve the football in the decisive areas with this squad – that’s my job, not sitting here and being disappointed or frustrated with some decisions,” he said, per the Independent.

“I am not. Of course, we know what we would do in an ideal world, but the world is not ideal and not only for us. We have to deal with the situation and that’s what we’re doing.”

Klopp’s talking about such things because the need for recruitment is quite obvious. Liverpool have both of their first-choice defenders out injured, after all.

Injuries across the squad, in fact, appear to be finally taking their toll. The Reds are five Premier League games without a win and haven’t scored in four.

Unfortunately, though, Liverpool can’t or won’t justify a signing. They’re certainly not alone in that, though.

Look at the Premier League and you see that virtually no one is justifying transfers. The only major deal – that is, where a transfer fee was sizeable enough to be disclosed – was Amad Diallo to Manchester United.

And that deal was agreed in the previous window.

It’s proving to be a very, very difficult market. Liverpool, though, can feel particularly frustrated by that.

For one, their needs are different to everyone elses. Because let’s get it straight – everyone in the league would like to make a major transfer.

Everyone can improve and there certainly is no perfect team in the Premier League right now.

Only, Liverpool’s problems stem purely from injuries. It’s unfair – massively so – but it doesn’t change the end result of wanting new players.

If the deals were there, someone would be doing them. It just doesn’t appear viable as no one is spending money to improve.

Liverpool are just bitterly unfortunate that a transfer window like this happens to come along right when they need to sign players.
