Liverpool simply must take notice as Raphael Varane reportedly wants out

Raphael Varane reportedly wants to leave Real Madrid and Liverpool must take notice. The Frenchman could be absolutely ideal.

Sport claims that Raphael Varane wants to leave Real Madrid. He’s got a few reasons, too.

First and foremost, he believes he’s reached the end of his moment with Real and wants to try something new. Following on from that, he thinks that at 27, this is the ideal time to move.

He’s not over the hill at all and right in his prime, ready to contribute at the elite level for someone else.

Then there’s the fact that his contract expires in 2022. This is the final year Real could get money for him, so Varane sees this as the best time to part ways.

Real, too, could be more open to a sale than you’d think. OKDiario reports that they’re considering a fire-sale anyway in order to fund a big summer revolution of their squad.

So with all of that in mind, Liverpool, surely will ask about him.

Perfection

A Varane / Virgil van Dijk partnership feels like absolute perfection. Both are very experienced winners, while both suit an athletic game based around a high-line.

It’s a natural partnership. Much like Van Dijk with Joe Gomez, really, but on a level the latter hasn’t quite reached.

You don’t need us to tell you of the positives with Varane there, though. But there’s another thing to consider here.

Both Van Dijk and Gomez are coming back from serious knee injuries. Each required surgery, in fact.

Thus there’s no guarantee that they’ll return the same players. At the very least, you’d imagine they’ll need some time to find their best form again.

Without that guarantee, though, Liverpool enter next season with risk. What if they break down again? What if they’re just not as good? It would seriously hamper the season.

In Varane, though, Liverpool have someone who could completely mitigate that risk. He would be there as a near-guarantee himself – that the team has an elite centre-half available, no matter what happens.

We don’t know how much Real would want for Varane but with all of this in mind, Liverpool should consider paying it.
