Jurgen Klopp has an update on Diogo Jota and the forward’s knee brace. The Liverpool boss can clearly see some progress with the player.
Jurgen Klopp says Diogo Jota is still in his knee brace. The Portuguese forward hasn’t played since the Reds’ final Champions League game against FC Midtjylland.
Despite that fixture being a dead rubber, Klopp played Jota. It came at a cost, too, as a knee injury immediately ruled the player out.
It now looks like February at the earliest for his return, per the Athletic – a real blow.
Klopp himself has given an update on Jota and it paints a picture of where the player is with his recovery. While there’s progress, the return doesn’t sound too close.
“Diogo’s knee brace is partly off,” said Klopp, per the Liverpool Echo. “That is how it is. At home he is wearing it. Here he is not.”
What RTK has to say
We could really use Jota back ASAP, so this isn’t exactly good news. Assuming Liverpool won’t rush things at all, it’ll be a good few weeks before we see him again.
Liverpool’s scoring woes have really highlighted why the Reds signed him for this season. He’s either the spark from the bench or the one to shake up the XI – both would work wonderfully right now.
Liverpool haven’t scored for three Premier League games, after all. They haven’t won any of their last four. It doesn’t matter how close to the goal they get – no one can provide the necessary magic.

Jota was providing it with ease before his injury, though. Virgil van Dijk may be the player we all want back the most but Jota really isn’t too far behind right now.
Hopefully, he can be fully fit and firing by February 6th – although, that feels like wishful thinking now.
