Liverpool fans have been crying out for a centre back signing. The Reds are down to just the one senior centre back in the squad and Joel Matip’s fitness isn’t something to be relied on. There’s a Bundesliga defender fans are desperate for. Liverpool chances of landing Dayot Upamecano may have been dealt a blow by Real Madrid landing David Alaba.
Liverpool centre back crisis
Liverpool have been devastated by injuries in the past few months.
No area of the squad has gone untouched, though the centre of defence has been worst hit.
It all started when Virgil van Dijk ruptured his ACL in the Merseyside Derby.
The Dutchman was ruled out for the season and just a few weeks later we were told Joe Gomez would join him on the sidelines.

Joel Matip was left as the last man standing at the back but he’s been in and out of the side himself.
David Alaba to Real Madrid
Over the summer David Alaba entered the final year of his deal at Bayern Munich.
The Austrian failed to agree fresh terms with the German giants and as a result was free to negotiate a summer transfer this month.
According to Marca, David Alaba to Real Madrid is a done deal.
Impact on Liverpool pursuit of Upamecano
According to The Guardian, Liverpool linked Dayot Upamecano has a release clause of £39m which is active from this summer.
The Frenchman has been touted as one of the brightest young defenders around so it is only natural that the Reds find themselves linked.
The Reds’ hopes of landing the defender may have been dealt a blow by Alaba’s agreement with Real Madrid.
The move will leave Bayern with a hole in defence which will need filling.
Upamecano is likely going to be top of the Bundesliga giants’ list.
Prior to this week’s development there was always the chance that Bayern would be able to keep ahold of Alaba.
Now that his move away is sealed the Reds may have some increased competition for Upamecano.
