Liverpool were lacklustre at the weekend. The Reds could’ve gone back to the top of the Premier League with a win but they failed to convert their precious few chances. One moment has come to define the game, a bizarre piece of officiating. Dermot Gallagher has said Paul Tierney got it wrong blowing early for halftime.

Lacklustre Liverpool

Another game, another game without a goal.

The Reds haven’t scored this year having not netted since the 27th of December 2020.

Jürgen Klopp’s side are now four Premier League games without a win and a win last weekend would’ve been huge.

The Reds could’ve leapfrogged Man United, reclaiming top spot.

Instead the game ended goalless with both sides squandering good chances.

The major talking point from the match has been the referee blowing early for halftime when the Reds were through on goal.

Dermot Gallagher on Paul Tierney

There has been a lot said about the referee’s decision to blow early.

Kopites are livid, Sadio Mane was clear of the defenders – he wasn’t going to miss.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Dermot Gallagher said he was surprised Paul Tierney got the decision wrong.

The ex-ref explained that it is the one thing referees have absolute control over in the game so it is bizarre that he opened himself up to criticism by blowing the whistle early.

Gallagher also discussed how a minimum amount of time is just that – a minimum. You can go over but not under. In fact, Gallagher said you are obliged to play the minute.

What RTK has to say

Liverpool were utterly robbed by this decision.

Sadio Mane was clean through on goal and he is one of the most lethal finishers in the game.

It is a real shame that yet another huge game has been ruined by refereeing errors, the standard of officiating in this country at the moment is a real disappointment.
