Liverpool ran away with the league title last term. The Reds were crowned champions by just about every fan and pundit in the country months before the championship was mathematically sealed. There seems to be a similar situation going on north of the border. Andy Robertson believes Rangers have sealed the league title in Scotland.
10 in a row not so
This was supposed to be the season that Celtic made it 10 in a row.
Instead it has been a string of humiliations for the Glasgow giants.
Neil Lennon has come under fire throughout the season for his side’s limp performances.
Most recently the club were lambasted for taking a trip to Dubai despite the pandemic and their miserable league showing.
As it stands Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are 20 points clear at the top but Celtic have two games in hand on their arch rivals.
Andy Robertson on Rangers runaway
Liverpool star Andy Robertson believes Rangers have secured the title already.
The Reds’ left back grew up an ardent season ticket holding Celtic fan and once remarked they’re the only team he’d join after Liverpool.
Released from the Celtic academy as a boy he found his way to Anfield via spells with Queens Park, Dundee United and Hull City.
Speaking on Jamie Carragher’s Greatest Game podcast, the left said:
“It’s done isn’t it. It’s in the bag. Just wrap it up now, it’s theirs to lose.
“It’s always a difficult situation, you come into the Liverpool training ground…everyone loves [Steven Gerrard] and wants him to do well and of course I want him to do well but then I’ve been brought up as a Celtic fan, to not like anything to do with Rangers.
What RTK has to say
Everyone has their Spanish team, Italian team etc. Many people in England have their Scottish team.
For (I’d argue most) Kopites, their Scottish team is Celtic and I’m no exception. There’s an affinity between the two sides and their supporters which would require a much longer and likely more controversial article to explain.
It’s been tough to watch the side’s capitulation.
10 in a row seems to be gone but we can, through gritted teeth, take solace in Anfield legend Steven Gerrard having some success.
