Training photos show Kostas Tsimikas is back in action after an injury lay-off. His return cuts Liverpool’s injury list down to ‘just’ four.

Photos from Liverpool’s Friday training session shows Kostas Tsimikas back in the mix. The Greek hasn’t played since December 9th when the Reds played away at FC Midtjylland.

Tsimikas picked up a knock in that game and that was it for him in 2020. Now, though, he appears to be near first-team action once again.

It cuts Liverpool’s injury list down from five to four, too. The Mirror listed him as out on Saturday but that may not be the case.

His return to training means Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Naby Keita and Diogo Jota are the ‘only’ players currently out.

Van Dijk and Gomez are gone long-term, of course. Jota, though, could return in just a few weeks. As for Keita, it seems like it could be another few weeks, too.

Easing up

Well this is nice. Only four! It wasn’t too long ago that half the squad was out of action.

But Thiago, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri all made their way back recently. Trent Alexander-Arnold returned not long before.

We might actually see the back of this injury crisis before long, then. It’ll still hurt as long as Van Dijk and Gomez are out, of course, but at least Jurgen Klopp has his options back.

It all comes at the right time, too. Liverpool are in poor form but the more players that return, the brighter the outlook. And if you can pick when to have an injury crisis, you’d go for the start of the season, rather than the business end.

Tsimikas isn’t a key player, no. But he’s another option in the squad and one that eases the pressure on Andy Robertson to play every week.

We’d imagine he’ll play cup games, at least, potentially starting with the 4th Round next week.
