Exclusive: Emile Heskey backs Diogo Jota return to be vital for Liverpool

Liverpool have been awfully unlucky with injuries this season. Jürgen Klopp has lost key stars for long stretches in what has been a freak of a year for the treatment table. Kopites will be wondering when their back luck will end. Emile Heskey has backed Diogo Jota to feel like a new signing upon his return.

Jota arrival and impact

Nobody saw the Liverpool move for Diogo Jota coming.

The Reds had been courting various forwards throughout the summer but the Portuguese star’s name didn’t come up once.

Jota arrived for a fee of £41m and there were some questions asked.

Why were Wolves letting him go? Is that a lot of money? What’s his role?

The forward silenced his critics early on, scoring game after game.

He netted a hattrick against Atalanta and important goals against Arsenal and West Ham, establishing himself as every inch a Liverpool forward.

We haven’t seen him since December after he picked up an injury against FC Midtjylland.

Emile Heskey on Diogo Jota return

Kopites are anxious to have the summer signing back.

We’ve been toothless in attack in recent weeks and he could’ve made all the difference.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Rousing the Kop, Emile Heskey hyped up Diogo Jota, saying:

“He gives you something different. Will he be the person to play as a false nine or as a 10? Will he play wide? But he gives you something different.

“Having him back is kind of like having a new player. Someone you’ve really missed. Nobody thought he was going to have the impact that he did when he came in.

“He’s been missed a lot. I still think there’s a place for an out and out number nine.”

What RTK has to say

Emile Heskey isn’t the only one who wants Diogo Jota back.

Kopites are desperate to see their summer signing back in the fold.

The Portuguese star has come up with the goods when we needed him so far this season.

It’s been a real blow having him out of the side. Hopefully he’ll be back before long.
