Report: Liverpool could move forward on Renato Sanches opportunity

Liverpool could move forward on a deal for Renato Sanches, according to reports. The Reds see an opportunity to build for the future.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano on the ‘Here We Go’ podcast. He claims that Liverpool could move for Renato Sanches – but only for the summer.

Sanches would be part of ‘planning for the future’ and would replace the potentially outgoing Gini Wijnaldum.

“Pay attention to Renato Sanches,” he said. “Next summer he will be on the market and Liverpool are looking at him.

“There is nothing advanced yet but they are looking at him as an opportunity. He’ll be a main target for top clubs and also for Liverpool.”

This isn’t the first link between Sanches and Liverpool, of course. Le10Sport claimed last month that the Reds liked him, while TuttoMercatoWeb talked about an £18m fee.

What RTK has to say

This one makes a lot more sense as a summer signing than as a January signing. And Sanches would be a fine replacement for Wijnaldum.

We might not say that if there weren’t so many good midfielders already at the club, mind. Sanches has flopped twice in his career, both at an elite club in Bayern Munich and in the Premier League at Swansea City.

Fortunately, Liverpool can afford to take a risk on his talent. If Sanches fulfils his clear potential, the Reds would get a fantastic player.

It’ll all depend on the fee, though. Lille do have some financial issues that open the door to move – at least, in theory. There haven’t been any big departures since the change of ownership.

We suspect that it will climb above £18m by the end of the season. Especially if fans are even close to getting back into stadiums and financial struggles lighten.

Still, there’s great potential in this one. We’ll admit to being quite excited at the possibility of Jurgen Klopp developing Sanches.
