Report: Liverpool suffer expected blow as £30m target wants Arsenal move

Liverpool appear set to miss out on a reported target as he fancies a move to Arsenal. This is something the Reds should have seen coming, however.

ESPN claimed late in 2020 that Liverpool liked the look of Yves Bissouma. The Brighton midfielder is making a real name for himself in the Premier League, after all.

And Bissouma feels like a solid replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, should the Dutchman leave at the end of his contract this year. The outlet claims he’d cost around £30m – a decent price, given his age, experience and ability.

There’s a hitch, however. Football London mentioned last week that Bissouma was an Arsenal fan. And, frustratingly, the Gunner want him, too.

Well, the same outlet have upgraded their claim – they now say Bissouma would pick Arsenal over anyone else.

If he was a fan growing up, this isn’t exactly a shock. Still, it’s an annoying situation.

Bissouma looks like a really good player. If Liverpool really do want him, they shouldn’t have to worry about Arsenal. The Gunners aren’t a threat in the league or in the market – any race between them and the Reds should be simple.

Instead, it appears that Arsenal have one over Liverpool for this particular target.

The hope now is that they don’t actually get a deal done with Brighton. Football London’s report says that Arsenal prioritise creativity in midfield for their next signing, ruling out a move for Bissouma until the summer.

Liverpool needed that waiting time, anyway. Bissouma would be a clear Wijnaldum replacement but the Reds don’t know for sure that their player is off. By the summer, they’ll know.

We like Bissouma a lot and hope he can move to Anfield someday. It seems difficult to get that done right now but perhaps things change over the next few months.

We certainly hope they do.
