LIverpool fans love a blood and thunder centre back. Those defenders who throw it all on the line, who fly into a tackle and more often than not come out on top. The 21st Century has seen just a few of these defenders at Anfield, today marks the anniversary of one these players signing. Fans have responded to Daniel Agger after he tweeted about his Liverpool landmark.
Remember Daniel Agger?
The 12th of January 2006 saw Liverpool tie up a £5m deal for Daniel Agger.
The Danish defender joined from Brondby at just 21-years-old.
He cut a viking like figure with his steely gaze and bodyguard frame.
Upon his arrival the defender was lavished with praise by Rafa Benitez, the manager saying:

“Daniel will be one of the best centre-backs in England in the future, I am sure of that.
“A youngster like Danny can be worked with and he can become Liverpool’s centre-back for the next 10 years.”
Injury woes and magical moments
Daniel Agger had a frustrating Liverpool career.
The Danish defender was impassable at times, crunching into opponents and saving games on his own at points.
However, like many players from that era, his career was blighted by injuries.
Much like Lucas Leiva and Momo Sissoko, his story is one of boundless potential hampered by fitness issues.
He managed just five league appearances in the 2007/08 season and just 18 the season after.
If he had managed to stay injury free we’d be talking about him as one of the best of his time.
Twitter responds to Agger anniversary
Daniel Agger tweeted out about his Liverpool anniversary today.
The Danish defender still has a lot of love for the club, he famously had YNWA tattooed on his knuckles.
Kopites have a lot of love for him too and that was shown on Twitter.
