There is now some doubt whether Harry Maguire faces Liverpool on Sunday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he’s going to take a risk with his captain.
Manchester United will want Harry Maguire against Liverpool. He’s their captain, after all, and this is undoubtedly the biggest game of their season.
Yet, he might not be able to, depending on how this week goes.
Maguire is one yellow card away from suspension. If he doesn’t play before the Liverpool game, he’s good to feature, then.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to take a chance, it seems. He admits he’ll play his captain against Burnley later today.
One yellow card and he’ll miss United’s next game, which is against Liverpool, of course.
“Harry is playing, definitely, that’s for sure,” said Solskjaer, per the Manchester Evening News.
The United boss went on to explain that he can’t settle for just winning the Liverpool game – he was to try and win both.
As a result, he’ll play Maguire in every game he can.
What RTK has to say
Honestly, any manager worth his salt take this chance. You put faith in the player and, more often that not, it’ll pay off.
But from a Liverpool point of view – get in. This could end up being fantastic ahead of the game at Anfield.
Now, really, we don’t rate Maguire that highly. He certainly isn’t worth the £80m United paid for him.
Still, it would be a big blow to their mentality. They’d lose their captain and have to play a defender who isn’t as good as Maguire – two big wins for Liverpool there.
The reality is this – if Liverpool’s front-three are on form, they’ll beat United. Doesn’t matter if they have Maguire at the back or not.
But Liverpool’s front-three have not been on form for three games now. The Reds have looked out of sorts as a whole, in fact – we won’t put all the blame on the forwards.
Thus we’ll take all the help offered ahead of this one. We just want a win.
Solskjaer taking this risk is great news, then. Hopefully, it can end up being a grave mistake.
