Bayern Munich and Real Madrid create transfer problems for Liverpool

Both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are reportedly creating transfer problems for Liverpool. The Reds are experiencing transfers at the top.

When exactly was the last time Liverpool operated at the top of the transfer market? Never, in our minds.

Before the 90s, teams almost exclusively looked domestically for transfers and Liverpool haven’t been a top dog since. Now, however, things are different.

Liverpool are undoubtedly one of the world’s biggest sides and will look to sign the biggest players. But that comes with a cost – you have to compete with the world’s biggest sides.

And that isn’t easy.

Recent reports suggest Liverpool will have to fight both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid for certain targets, for instance.

Transfer battle

We recently talked about Liverpool facing off against Real Madrid in the transfer market. There appear to be three players in total.

There’s Nuno Mendes, a young defender at Sporting. A Bola’s Bruno Andrade makes that claim. Then there’s David Alaba, per the Guardian.

Then there’s the big one: Kylian Mbappe. AS are one of many outlets reporting that fight. If Liverpool ever needed evidence that they’re competing at the top, that’s it.

As for the Bayern fight, it’s over two players. Sport 1 in Germany claims that the Bavarians are in talks over Dayot Upamecano. They also say they could move for Mohamed Simakan.

These are two players linked with Liverpool, of course. Telefoot’s Julien Maynard reports on the Simakan interest, while the Daily Mail lists the Reds in the Upamecano race.

There’s no getting around this if you want the world’s best players. Liverpool were a little lucky in previous years but it changes this time around.

Deals for Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Fabinho came under little competition. Then other stars, like Mohamed Salah, were top players found under the radar.

The question, then, is can Liverpool win these battles? We’ve got to believe they can.

It won’t be easy, though. Both Bayern and Real are more established elite clubs than Liverpool.

But let’s be honest – there’s one standout here. Liverpool could lose out on every race but one and still come out on top.

If they get Mbappe, they’ve made their point, even if every other player rejects them. That’s the statement signing.

Win that race and Liverpool assert themselves as the biggest club around.
