Patson Daka could be the long term solution Liverpool need. But can they truly justify the reported £25m price?
The Daily Mirror believes West Ham United have the opportunity to sign Patson Daka for £25m.
The 22-year-old striker is effectively RB Salzburg’s Erling Haaland replacement – although, he did join years before the Norwegian left.
Still, Daka won the Austrian Bundesliga’s Player of the Year last season, scoring 27 goals in all competitions as they won the Double. He’s certainly one of the most promising players outside of the strongest European leagues.
And it makes us wonder – should Liverpool get involved? They’ve been linked before, through Zambian publication Far Post.

We’ll stress that Daka is Zambian, in case you’re wondering why on earth we’re using a Zambian publication here. And no, it’s not the strongest source but our point here is that even if Liverpool aren’t interested, they perhaps should be.
Divock Origi will surely leave in 2021. He’s barely playing and at 25, needs a move to get the best out of his prime years.
And from a Liverpool point of view, they could do with someone new in a supporting role. Origi simply isn’t offering enough as an option.
Daka, though, with his impressive goal record and experience in the Champions League, could be a fine option. Coming from the Austrian Bundesliga, he surely wouldn’t demand a starting role, either.
He’s young enough that Jurgen Klopp could work wonders developing him into something special, too. Altogether, he’d be quite ideal for the role.
But can Liverpool justify £25m? We’d imagine not – at this stage, anyway.
They’re struggling to do so for a defender, for one thing, and they could really use one of those. Far more, even, than another squad player.
Add to that Takumi Minamino’s struggles and we don’t think Liverpool would pay it. He came from the same club, after all, and hasn’t quite fit in. He’s an example of the gamble buying from smaller leagues.
For that reason, £25m is likely too much this month. If West Ham pays it, then good for them. That would likely rule out any future move to Liverpool, though.
If he played well in England, he’d be far too expensive for a pure squad role.
As things stand, the Reds should consider this one if the money is there. If it isn’t, then Patson Daka is exactly the kind of player Liverpool should look for.
